Shane was born and raised in Port Alberni and has been guiding on the West Coast of Vancouver Island since 1988. Shane's first fishing experience was at the tender age of two and he's been on the water ever since. Shane's first sport-fishing job was in Ontario 15 years ago when he worked at a family owned lodge at Lake of the Woods. From there, Shane's interest was sparked and it seemed a natural fit for him to pursue a part-time career in the tourism industry with a focus on sport fishing.

While in Ontario Shane learned about marine mechanics, which led to employment at a sport-fishing lodge in Bamfield. While in Bamfield he worked as a fishing guide as well as a resort caretaker. Shane soon discovered that the more time he spent working on boats the more he wanted to be out on the water. Shane continued to work in Bamfield for the next five years before moving to Ucluelet where he worked as a full time fishing guide in the summer while also pursuing his education at the University of Victoria. Shane's hobbies include all aspects of outdoor recreation with a special interest in hunting and recreational fishing. The 2004 season marks his 2nd season with Clayoquot Ventures.
