Matt Thornton

Matt has been a saltwater guide with Clayoquot Ventures in Tofino since 2008 and has lived on Vancouver Island most of his life. Although you won’t hear this from him, Matt “The Kid” holds the bragging rights to having guided clients to the largest Chinook in the Tofino area for 2009 (52lbs) as well as Tofino’s annual Legion Derby winning Chinook in 2010. In fact, the Chinook from 2009 is BC’s most famous fish as its image was used for promotion during the 2010 Olympics. Matt has fished the Straights of Georgia as well as the West Coast of Vancouver Island for most Saltwater species and is also be an avid Freshwater angler, enjoying time on many of the lakes and rivers of south Vancouver Island. Always keeping up to date with new products in the sport fishing industry has helped Matt develop a strong background to help with retail sales when not on the water guiding.
Matt has worked with various Stream enhancement projects on the east coast of Vancouver Island for several years and is nearing a specialized biology degree in the fisheries and aquaculture program at Vancouver Island University. Matt’s attention to detail and work ethic is regularly commended by his clients, young and old.
