Tofino Fishing Team Profiles

Doug is excited to join the Clayoquot Ventures Fishing Team for the 2011 season. Doug was born in New Zealand, but grew up exploring the waters of Southern Vancouver Island. After completing his Bachelor of Commerce in New Zealand, Doug ended up taking a while to realize that a suit and tie were not for him, and that he was better suited in the outdoors. After his studies, and working in the corporate world, Doug was bitten by the travel bug and has since backpacked far and wide. His latest travels have found Doug fishing the mighty Niagara in eastern Canada, to the remote corners of Asia. Highlights were catching species like the giant Mekong Catfish on the Fly, to simply fishing hand lines with locals. Since picking up a fly rod years ago, Doug has spent many hours behind the vice and is now addicted to swinging flies with the two hand rod, learning new techniques. The lure of fishing the real west coast was strong, and we are glad that Doug wandered back as far as Tofino to be part of the Clayoquot Ventures Team. Doug is always up for the next adventure and the Tofino area is a prime setting for his next pursuits.
