Derek has probably logged as many or more guiding hours in the Tofino area than anyone. A born and raised Tofinoite, Derek has successfully guided clients from all over the world since guiding his first trip in 1986, at the age of 10. Derek has always been one of the most requested guides in the area, providing non stop entertainment and great action for Salmon and Halibut. Fortunately, the Tofino area’s fishing opportunities are most often exceptional, but on those days that the bite is off, Derek has an uncanny ability to arrive back at the dock with happy clients and many fish. His main forte’ is searching for large Chinook salmon among the many islands and reefs of Clayoquot Sound. Derek’s knowledge of the intricate underwater structure in these areas gives him the edge on other anglers, where he is not often rivalled. Offshore Halibut waters are also frequented by Derek and his guests with excellent success. Derek is also an experienced surfer and fish processor, and enjoys spending time with his son.
