Clayoquot Ventures' 2007 Guide Team

Conor MacKenzie

Conor spent most of the summer months of his youth road-tripping around BC, Alaska and the Yukon in search of fish. Sticking primarily to lakes and rivers, Conor gained an early appreciation for the outdoors, and the sport of fly-fishing on pristine waters, including the Nass, Kitimat and Skeena systems every fall and spring in search of Coho and Steelhead. Saltwater fishing was always an interest but not as easily accessible as the lakes and streams. While focusing on a degree in Political Science at the University of Victoria for the past few years, the coastal atmosphere of Vancouver Island’s west coast drew Conor to a heightened passion in saltwater fishing. The Tofino/Clayoquot Sound area became the common refuge on University “reading breaks” and holidays. After spending six seasons as a whitewater kayak and rafting guide in BC’s interior, Conor was enticed to Tofino for the 2005 summer. Conor joined Clayoquot Ventures and quickly become an integral part of Jay’s team. Surfing and hockey also rank high as interests for Conor. Conor played hockey for over 13 years, including a stint in the Western Hockey League.
