INCREDIBLE Fishing Conditions Continue
WOW! It has been a bit of a challenge to stay off the water long enough to sit down to write this update as the fishing in Tofino continues to be nothing short of phenomenal! The first 3 weeks of July have seen some incredible fishing days with lots of fun coho, incredible tyee action, calm seas, sunny skies, and anglers excited to share their fishing stories. The waters of Tofino long ago earned the right to brag about its incredible offering of salmon, but this season Tofino is more than a strong contender for that illustrious "Salmon Capital of the World" title.
The mighty Chinook have been providing guests and the guide team great thrills both offshore and close in, the coho are everywhere we drop the hooks and literally millions of pink salmon are starting to show up. This is probably the best salmon fishery Tofino has seen in ten years, and Clayoquot Ventures Guide Service continues to be the most recommended full service fishing outfitter in Tofino. "I experienced Tofino in June 2007 through a company team building mission. It was an adventure just getting to Tofino and when we arrived Jay looked after our every need. On my way home I told myself that I had to bring my family to experience Tofino. I booked a trip for June 09 with my 2 sons and nephew hoping that they would enjoy this world as much as I do and we were not disappointed. Day #1 Tour the town. Day #2 full day of ocean fishing -landed a 35 lb salmon among several others. Day 3 Whale watching and hot springs. "Fishing doesn't get any better than what I experienced in Tofino, B.C. this last weekend. Three of us over 2.5 days of fishing caught over 60 Chinook, a handful of Coho, and all the Lings and Rockfish one could ever want. All the Chinook were between 15 - 30lbs with the average around 22lbs.........singles and doubles all day long......just silly fishing. We fished with Jay's Clayoquot Ventures at Tofino B.C. "In making my arrangements for a June trip to Tofino, Cedric Nagy at The Wick scheduled me for Clayoquot Ventures. I emailed Meghan and explained that my wife and I were novice Salmon fishermen and we wanted a half day's trip, I also asked for a left handed reel. When we arrived at 7:00am for our trip everything was in place. We went on the "Relentless" which has sun/water canopy that my wife especially appreciated. We motored out about 6 miles and began to troll. We had action immediately and --often-- both of us we trying to reel in fish. We caught our limit for Chinook and we also caught -- and released a number of smaller Coho. I was skeptical of our guide (Matt) because of his youth. However, he did a super job from start to finish. Put another way, he worked his butt off. Once we were over the bait fish he kept his eye on the fish finder and other boats. He set us up and watched for the rod to quiver with a bite. He then set the hook and gave the rod to us to reel in. He provided polite --but direct -- instruction to help us land the fish. After Matt dispatched the fish( or released the fish) he got us going again quickly.......I can't imagine a better trip.....A truly memorable day" Jim Alexander Birmingham, Alabama

The outfit is clearly well-organized and interested in providing you with a safe, enjoyable day. The boat and gear was in A-1 shape. Our guide, Blake, was knowledgeable, friendly, and completely helpful to us as novice ocean anglers.
